Light On Yoga

January 16, 2014 Shirley Callis

After one of my recent yoga classes someone asked if I could recommend a book on yoga. While there are several excellent books on the subject, there is one that has benefited me the most personally. "Light on Yoga", the Bible of modern yoga by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. First published in 1966 this book is "the definitive guide to the philosophy and practice of yoga." One reviewer writes "worth the price alone just for the 53 page introduction."  In addition to the history and philosophical aspects of yoga, Light on Yoga contains over 600 photos of Iyengar demonstrating 200 poses and breathing exercises with step by step instructions. It has been translated into 17 languages and has sold over 3 million copies worldwide. If you are thinking about starting a yoga practice or furthering your current practice I would highly recommend this book. I own 2 copies myself, one for travel and one for home reference. Light on Yoga retails for about $15.00.
